Scared of the Milk???

Are you afraid of what is lurking in the refrigerator?!
If you have teenagers you should be!  They will leave food in there until it is green and can walk out by itself!

Pumpkins all around!

Happy National Pumpkin Day!

If you haven't yet, today is the day to get out and get your fall pumpkins!  It is going to be a nice day today in Nebraska, probably one of the last!  So, don't wait any longer!

If you are an activity director, now is the time to get your residents outside and picking out pumpkins!  You can bring them back and help them decorate them.

You don't have to carve them, certainly some residents would have trouble with that, there are many other creative ways to make your pumpkins look great!

Check out our Pinterest page for some great ideas!

With a little craft paint, a sharpie, and some fun ideas you can create something really fun and unique!

Have you done this with your loved ones or residents?  If so, show us what you came up with!

Fabulous Fall - Help keep it that way!

Fall is definitely here!  Don't you love it?!

The morning air is cool and crisp.
The apples are falling from their branches.
The leaves are changing a variety of gorgeous colors.
People are getting outside to enjoy hayrides, pumpkin patches, and cookouts.

For many, though, Fall can be a dangerous time.  As you are probably aware, Fall is also the time when germs are starting to spread like the wildfires in California.

Don't be careless when enjoying these beautiful Fall days.  Keep in mind that it is very important to avoid germs and be aware of your surroundings.  Allergies to the changing of the season and falling leaves are vicious to those who are affected.  But, they can also be an excuse for some who don't want to take the time to admit they are getting sick.

It is all too easy, when you come down with a cold, to say "It's just my allergies" and keep on going.  What you may not realize is that there are people around you who are extremely vulnerable to those cold germs you are spreading.  For some, it could lead to conditions like bronchitis, pneumonia, or worse.

This week is International Infection Prevention Week.  So, it is time to take note of the things you can do to avoid those nasty germs, while also making the effort to prevent spreading them.  There are lots of great resources out there with information and tips.  Here is one: click here.
Remember, you could have the germs/cold virus for several days before feeling sympotoms.  You can be touching things and leaving germs behind without even realizing it.

The good news is that this is preventable!
Hand hygiene is such a large tool against the spread of germs.  It sounds so simple, but it's true!
You probably don't realize the things you touch every day that are full of germs.  Everyone thinks of toilets and trash cans first when talking about this, but did you know that your cell phone typically has more germs on its surface than those other two COMBINED!

Yep.
Now think about this.....
Doorknobs. Office phones.  Grocery carts.  Credit/Debit machines (how many people have keyed in their PIN number that day, who hadn't washed their hands?) The refrigerator door handle.  Kitchen cabinets (really, how often are they wiped down?)  Computer keys. That pen you signed in with at the doctor's office.

Do I need to keep going?
Or, are you already heading out the door to wash your hands?

We NEED YOU!!

Today we have excellent news!  We are growing rapidly!

We have been so blessed to take care of some really wonderful people in the Omaha and Council Bluffs area!
What a joy it is to provide companionship and help to those who need it.

We have really great staff here at Prestige.
We hire only the best caregivers to send out to our clients' homes!  We wouldn't have it any other way.  We are not just caring for "clients", we are taking care of family.

Your family.

When we send a caregiver out, that person is taking care of someone's mom. It's always someone's loved one, their whole world.  It's very personal, as it should be.
This is one of those things that sets us apart from other companies.  We realize that this business is not all about the numbers.  It is all about personal relationships we build as we care for other people.  You wouldn't want just a random "warm body" responsible for your dad's well-being.  You want someone that will go in and care for them as they would their own parent!

Does this describe you?
If so, then we need you!  Today!

We are looking for compassionate, caring, kind caregivers.  Because we are growing so rapidly, we are in need of additional staff and only the best will do!
We have a wide variety of clients with a wide variety of needs.  Chances are, you will fit nicely into someone's life that we have been chosen to help.

Some of our clients need a ride to the doctor; some need companions to sit with them while their family cannot be there.  Others may need meals prepared or help with a bath before getting into bed.

Imagine yourself on a career path that is so rewarding.  Imagine a job that is not just "a job", but a blessing!

If you, or someone you know, is interested please call us today!
Our office number is 402-933-1694.  Samantha, our Office Manager, would love to hear from you!
You can also visit the website and fill out the form on our "Join Our Team" page.

Don't wait, we need you NOW!

Columbus Day "did you know?"

Happy Columbus Day!

Did you realize today is a Federal Holiday?
I suppose if you work for a bank or the U.S. Postal Service you do.
But, for many of us, today is a normal work day.

Why do we celebrate today?
"Celebrate" may not be the right word.  I don't know of anyone who says "What are your plans for Columbus Day?!"

Do you?

Many people sadly do not know the reason for the holiday, other than the name Christopher Columbus.  We all know he is the one who landed here, officially "discovering" America.

Did you know that TODAY is the day in history that he actually landed here?
October 12, 1492.  He sailed from Spain with his crews in the "Nina", "Pinta", and the "Santa Maria".

To be more exact, he landed in the Bahamas.

So, do you know WHY it was offically named "America" and not "Columbus"?

During the late 1400's and early 1500's, another explorer named Amerigo Vespucci explored the area that would later be known as South America, although it was after Christopher Columbus.  Vespucci sent a letter to a friend, explaining his discovery, who then gave it to a German mapmaker.  The mapmaker named the new land America after Amerigo.  Once the mapmaker realized his mistake, it was too late.  The maps had already been distributed all over Europe.
So, the name stuck.  Welcome to AMERICA!

Important Happenings this week!

Every week it seems we hear about a nationally recognized day (or week/month) to celebrate or recognize.
There are literally so many it is hard to keep up with them all.

Everything from "National Noodle Day" (yes, you read that correctly) coming up later this month, to "National Fluffernutter Day"!  I have no idea what a "fluffernutter" is, but apparently someone thought it was important enough to designate it's own day of recognition.

However, there are certain seasons of celebration that we adopt for a very good, very necessary reason. For many, this is a great way to pass along information and raise money for a worthy cause.

So, pay attention and don't skip any of these this week!

First, you probably know by now that it is "Breast Cancer Awareness" month. It's hard to miss the professional football players sporting the pink socks and ribbons on their uniform.

There is no doubt this cause is extremely important!  Just about everyone can think of someone they know who has been affected by this horrible disease.  Let's all do what we can to eliminate it for good!  For more information on how you can help, visit their website:
http://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/breast-cancer-awareness-month

Next up is another very important cause!
It is "National Fire Prevention" week!  There are simply too many people taken from us every year due to house fires.  The sad part is that this is most times completely preventable.
There are little things you can do that could end up saving your life.
Some important steps to take would be:

1- Don't smoke in the house, especially when laying down.  Many people say "I would never fall asleep with a cigarette in my hand."  However, the people who died from this very thing would probably have said the same thing.  If you are going to smoke in your home, make a habit to stand up and walk around.  It sounds silly, but this is the best habit (other than NOT SMOKING) to ensure you never fall asleep with a cigarette in your hand!

2- Make sure your smoke detectors are working, and that you have one in every room.  The bedroom is the most important room for this!  If you are sleeping when a fire breaks out, that smoke detector downstairs in the kitchen is not going to do much good!  Take 15 minutes every few months to change the batteries.  There is no excuse not to do this, the result is priceless!

3- Plan your escape!  Get the whole family involved in this.  Make a diagram of the house and make note of all the possible exits.  It sounds obvious, you think you would know where they are, but if it is dark and full of smoke you would be surprised how easily panic can make you lost.  If you have a plan in place, and practice it, you will be prepared if the worst happens!  Be sure to set up a "meet point" outside.  Maybe beside the tree in your neighbor's yard, and make sure everyone knows where it is.  Make it something simple and easy to remember, especially for the kids!

Finally, it is "Mental Illness Awareness Week."
You know, there are times in life when we are affected by things that we leave untreated.
When we come down with a cold, it is not unusual for many people to just "deal with it" until it goes away or gets better.
But, when you are dealing with mental illness, you cannot afford to just ignore it.  Every year there are millions of people treated for some variety of mental illness.  But, there are so many more who are not.   These people desperately need our help and our support.
Whether it is yourself, a friend, or a loved one who is suffering, there are resources available to help you.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness was established to provide the much needed help and support to all those who are suffering or caring for someone who suffers from mental illness.
Go to their website, where you will find lots of valuable information.
Do NOT let this one go!
